THE CAVENDISH LONDON hotel is holding a free hog roast on Sat 4th September to celebrate the Jermyn Street party.

“The Art of Being British” is the first street party to be held by the Crown Estate and the Jermyn Street Association – they have teamed to celebrate the area’s quintessentially British traditions.

Home to London’s most historic shirtmakers, bootmakers and quaint foodstores, Jermyn Street has always retained flair and elegance.

And it’s the perfect place for you to experience “Britishness” in every sense.

The Cavendish London hotel checks into William Murray for PR and social media

London, Aug 2, 2010:

THE CAVENDISH LONDON has invested in social media network training for its hotel staff with the help of William Murray Communications.

The Piccadilly hotel was made famous in 1902 when it was taken over by Rosa Lewis – the chef for Winston Churchill’s family. It has now embraced Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to create communities around its historic brand. It will also use social media to drive direct room bookings online.

The Cavendish London, located opposite Fortnum & Mason on Jermyn Street, called in William Murray to help it engage more effectively with customers, to create more online buzz for the brand and increase traffic to www.thecavendishlondon.com.

William Murray, an award-winning communications agency for food, drink and hospitality, is to implement a three-step social media strategy, which includes a social media workshop to guide staff through online tools, social media etiquette and effective content writing.

The London-based agency, founded 23 years ago, will take over traditional PR and communications for The Cavendish London with immediate effect.

Going Bananas

Filed under: Uncategorized — lisa @ 4:13 pm

One could be forgiven for thinking April Fools day was upon us with the recent story in the press about ‘the double banana’.  Organisers of a charity fun run stumbled across the freakish fruit amongst a batch of bananas distributed free to runners of the race.  When they peeled back the skin, they found two bananas crammed tightly together like two fingers of a Twix! Ironically, the fruit was uncovered only the day before the run in London’s Hyde Park billed ‘Beat the Banana’ – a race in which runners compete to overtake an athlete dressed as a banana.

With twice the fruit, and therefore twice the amount of skin, my advice  - should anyone be lucky enough to get their mitts on one of these bizarre bananas  – is to discard of the skin with caution.  More skin equals more ‘slip potential’ which equals more embarrassment for the victim!  Tread carefully!

Everyone is a winner at the Grand National

Filed under: Uncategorized — rachelle @ 12:32 pm

I may have got the winner and second place at The Grand National, but I think the real winners have to be Jockey Club Catering! With over 9,000 bottles of Champagne, 220,000 pints of beer and 100,000 cups of tea and coffee consumed during the 3-day event this truly is a demanding hospitality event – I wouldn’t want to be one of the many nursing sore feet the following day!

Flavoured wallpaper – whatever will Heston think of next?

Filed under: Uncategorized — fiona @ 9:17 am

Last week’s team-up between Heston Blumenthal and The Sun prompting readers to lick the page for a taste of flavoured newsprint may have been an April fool, but a feature in today’s paper should make those who did lick the page feel a bit better. In Heston’s new programme – Heston’s Feast, which begins tonight – celebrity diners at his Willy Wonka inspired feast will be treated to ‘lickable wallpaper’ among other delights.

Viewers should stay tuned for an array of forgotten favourites –  including that well-known dish of spam fritters with, er truffle, in the seventies school themed episode later in the series.

Brands enter the final count down to World Cup

Filed under: Uncategorized — fiona @ 9:48 am

With 72 days, 6 hours and  25 minutes until the World Cup kicks off in South Africa, it’s not just the fans and players that are counting down. The UK’s food and drink brands – including Mars, Carlsberg, Heineken, Kit Kat and Coca-Cola – are getting excited too.

This week’s Grocer, which summarised the tactics of some of the big food and drink brands, was interesting reading. Budweiser will be launching a limited edition pint can and trophy bottle; Kit Kat is launching a ‘cross your fingers’ campaign, and Carlsberg is on tour with a bus which lets fans record a motivational message which may get played at the tournament.

Here’s to a summer of football and fun food-marketing.

Social networking are the words on everyone’s lips at the moment, and not just to keep up with who’s dating who, who did what on the weekend and chatting with friends. Social networking has crossed the border into business territory with an increasing number of organisations using the online platform to interact and engage with current and potential customers.

Food and drink companies such as Coca-Cola (3,693,276 fans on Facebook) and Whole Foods (1,358,457 followers on Twitter) are embracing the social networking tools. Is yours?

As seen on screen…

The Times reported today that the Government is to reverse its ban on product placement, allowing broadcasters for the first time to advertise products within their own programmes. Experts believe this move could raise up to £100million a year for the channels involved, such s ITV, Channel 4 and Five, so it looks like TV networks have just been given a huge helping hand during these touch times.

Thunder Thighs are good for you

Doctors revealed today that women like Victoria Beckham whose thighs are less than 60cm have a higher risk of heart disease and early death. Good news for all those gym bunnies!

The findings were announced on The British Medical Journal website, after experts studied 3,000 individuals and spent 20 years analysing both men and women’s body shapes and the impact this has on their health. It was found that smaller thighs for both men and women increased the chance of heart troubles but the exact reason for this relationship was unclear.
