PRIME MINISTER David Cameron is at war with supermarkets over cut-price booze deals that are turning town centres into the “Wild West”.

According to the Daily Mail, Cameron says high-street deals are now so low that a pint is less than 50p. Cheap alcohol fuels a “pre-load” mentality where drinkers get drunk before going out, he adds.

The Cavendish London hotel checks into William Murray for PR and social media

London, Aug 2, 2010:

THE CAVENDISH LONDON has invested in social media network training for its hotel staff with the help of William Murray Communications.

The Piccadilly hotel was made famous in 1902 when it was taken over by Rosa Lewis – the chef for Winston Churchill’s family. It has now embraced Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to create communities around its historic brand. It will also use social media to drive direct room bookings online.

The Cavendish London, located opposite Fortnum & Mason on Jermyn Street, called in William Murray to help it engage more effectively with customers, to create more online buzz for the brand and increase traffic to www.thecavendishlondon.com.

William Murray, an award-winning communications agency for food, drink and hospitality, is to implement a three-step social media strategy, which includes a social media workshop to guide staff through online tools, social media etiquette and effective content writing.

William Murray Communications has created the new position of digital and social media director, recognising the importance and value of the opportunities available to its clients in the online environment.

Award-winning writer and social media specialist Bernadette Costello took up the new role at the beginning of June. A journalist for 10 years, Bernadette started her career as a sub-editor at The Sun newspaper before joining global business-to-business titles in drinks and later the overseas property industry.

We had a great evening last night at Hospitality Action’s Question of Support. Our team may not have made it to the premiership, but we won our league and were proud to lift the trophy at the end of the evening. The event raised over £65,000 for HA, with Unilever Foodsolutions handing a cheque to Penny Moore for £15,000. A huge thank you to everyone that attended, hopefully we’ll have the same luck in the World Cup this year!

Snow fall in Luton so bad Karen’s house gets on BBC

There’s been no shortage of snow photos over the last few days but the snow and ice in Luton has been so bad that Karen and Steve’s house in Luton has been on BBC news twice.  Mr and Mrs Browne are currently blocked in their own house, without heating or running water!  Fingers crossed that the snow clears soon.

The eyes at William Murray lit up when Judith opened the biscuit cupboard and pulled out a packet of Boasters – a nice big cookie would keep us going for another hour at least.

But alas, it appears that the manufacturers have been stingy with the edible content and overly generous with the wrapping.

ha-ballLast night the team at William Murray attended the HA Sparkle Ball, Hospitality Action’s annual fundraising evening. Everything was given a sparkle makeover, from the table decorations and the vast number of sequinned and bejewelled dresses (and even the odd tie) to the game of true and false, with all questions fitting with the theme.

The night was a great success, with good food, good wine and in excess of £80,000 raised for the charity. A great night was had by all who was there – especially those who hung around long enough for the Blues Brother medley from the band, complete with hats and sunglasses!
